U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Kansas Rural Development Director Christy Davis today announced that the USDA is investing $49,068 to help connect rural producers with rural consumers.
“USDA is working to give rural Kansans the opportunity to support their neighbors.” Davis said. “The Value-Added Producer Grant program helps Kansas farmers, ranchers, consumers and local businesses by giving rural Kansans access to the food that is produced in their own communities.”
Today’s funding is provided through USDA Rural Development’s Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program. VAPG grants may be used for planning activities or working capital expenses related to producing or marketing a value-added product including feasibility studies, business plans, processing of the value-added product, logo and website development, marketing and distribution. This announcement is part of a larger national announcement involving 24 other projects in 14 other states.
The details of the Kansas project are:
- A $49,068 grant will help Welch Market LLC, of Humboldt, supplement the amount of beef being processed and sold through their grocery store. The project will result in three jobs saved.
